Rose two publisherar3e writing for my M S. What show i call my new book of poems. She wants to get it done for Christmas trade. Needs Mr. M to revise them. LIza Lehman sent me some of my writing from a London Journal to set to music. Florence Maley is the composer.

California poet. Raised near Vacaville, became a schoolteacher in Coloma and later in Oakland. Became famous overnight with publication of "The Man with a Hoe," his protest against brutalization of labor, in "San Francisco Examiner" (January 15, 1899). Following this success Markham moved to New York where he scored another triumph with "Lincoln and Other Poems" (1901). He became a well-known reader of his own poems and lecturer of idealistic views, but his creative output for remainder of life ...
